I am looking for a snorkel for my car but I can`t find any
had any body installed in? or what snorkel I can use for my Fronti

so far as I know is there no snorkel in europe available, therfore I made it myself

thanks a lot, I like my little truck to.. its a fun not using a Land Rover or Landcruiser to change the car. This types are very common to be changed for desert trips, but using our little car and preparing it for long distance range is different, so therfore the people ara astonished when I`ll tell them I was twice now in Marocco desert, and last year even at west Sahara and Mauretania. (West Africa)

By the way - where at the Atacama desert ist your Location? and what about your engine - is it running well again?

I like the desert myself because its a great natural envirement and you have to be clever enogh to survive, otherwise dont go- it may be your last trip.

Hello everyone,My Names Ian From England.

This is my snorkel Its an Safari ss100hf fitted to a B series 2000 Swb 2.2RS petrol And cost £240 English pounds


This snorkel was bought from Devon4x4

First off, a few pics of what your money (£240 quid) buy`s you







Start by removing the airbox and connecting pipes,under the bonnet











Next hold the snorkel in place,and tape the template in place, (an extra pair of hands is usefull at this stage)





And when your satisfied, remove snorkel, and secure template with masking tape. You can now mark the hole onto the wing.





It was at this point we removed the wheel





And the inner plastic arch trim

Whoops forgot to mention the chief mechanic, Aka Adrian (Tiger on the forum) Whos help was much appreciated.



Now time for a break, and decide wether to go for it



After drinking the beers, time for action, Using a medium sized drill bit, drill to the inside line of the mark you drew on the wing, not too close though, and doesnt matter if the holes dont connect together



Should look like this when finished so you can use a pair of snips to cut between the holes as in the next pic



And when youve done that, you end up with this




Next we used a die grinder to smooth the lines of the hole,and to take it to the line we had drawn on the wing

Once that is done,blow all the remaining swarf away with an air line



and use some paint on the edges of the hole to stop rusting



now remove interior trim,so you can see the inner roof.

hold the snorkel in place in the hole, and mark the holes on the roof for the securing bracket and drill them out, we drilled all the way through and used nuts and bolts, instead of the supplied captive nuts.





Now the snorkel can be bolted in place at the roof, and the two holes drilled in the wing for securing to the inner assembly.

Here is where it might differ from mine to other models.

on my fronty, the inner piece supplied was too long, so we cut it down the middle, i secured it at snorkel end, then held the other end up to the inner wing hole, and marked where i was to cut it again,and it worked out about 2 inches needed to be removed.

when it is cut, you can hold the two pieces together, and using a soldering iron, "plastic weld" the two halfs together by heating the joint all the way around the assembly.
I then used some denso tape, to tightly wrap around the joint, to safeguard against leaks. The assembly was then bolted in to the snorkel, and using sealant to be sure, connected in to the airbox.

Heres pics under the bonnet, be sure to seal the places highlighted.

very well done! good job. The test seems to bee ok..
some of our friends with Frontera asked for your snorkel, but our cars are left hand drive and the air box as well the snorkel must be on the other side of the car, do you know if they are available?
oh yeah.. its very kind of Devon to send two beers for you and the mechanics

I will ask for you,a few people are fitting snorkels to the A series fronteras here, and airbox on right hand side . I think that would be ok for you yes? if so i will ask what they use.

Upto 1998 (A series) on English frontera..airbox on right side, on late 1998 (B series like mine) up to present day, airbox on left. just been looking and think left hand drive is same. can someone confirm please......Ian

as far as Iknow in Germany we only have airbox on right side but Im not 100 % sure.

You can also get a version with a normal intake on the top angled forward, but i do not know the web address for it.
